For me as a kid, it was a little hard to get through the first couple chapters, but after that I was hooked all the way through! Meg Murry lives with her Mom and brothers struggling in school with grades and bullies. One night there was a knock on the door and a strange little woman named Mrs. Whatsit entered the room. She was trying to get out of the storm and was smothered in blankets she didn't know she stole. A few days later Meg and her little brother Charles were taking a walk through the fores when meg meets a boy from her school. He accompanied them deeper into the woods and found where Mrs. Whatsit and her friends live in an old abandoned cottage. From there the children were launched into another world with their quire friends to find Meg's long lost Father.

The blackthorn key is one of the best well written books I've ever read! Usually I don't like books set in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, but theis book was a big exeption. There is a little bit of blood and violence, but i think that makes for a good story.
