All the magic in Artime is gone and all they have left is a clue in poem form and a few buckets of water and a little broth. Two of Alex's friends, Lani and Samheed, are still missing on Warbler island and forced to work as slaves every day. I thought this book was a lot like Harry Potter in that there was a school for magic. Alex is an unwanted. That means that he is supposedly not needed in his own family or city. So when he and is twin brother turned thirteen, they were sent to become one of three kinds of people: a wanted, a necessary, or an unwanted. That was the day when Alex was separated from his wanted brother for being an unwanted. But when he was sent to be eliminated, (killed) he found himself in the magical land of Arteme where he is free to lean the arts and magic.
