Doggedly digging up his roots, Clifford, the big red dog, visits his city-dwelling mother, his brother, who works at a fire station, his sister, a seeing-eye dog, and his second sister, a farm dog. Clifford and Emily Elizabeth go to the city to visit Clifford's family.

Clifford, the big red dog, sets out with Emily Elizabeth and their friend Tim to offer a helping paw to people in need. Clifford's attempts at being helpful and useful never turn out right until he gets a chance to be a hero.

When Clifford, the big red dog, is feeling sad, Emily Elizabeth and her friends do everything they can think of to cheer him up. Clifford the big red dog is feeling bad and no one knows why. So Emily Elizabeth writes him a song telling all the good things about him.

Clifford goes to the city to visit his brother, Nero, who lives in a firehouse. When the siren blows, Clifford goes to the fire and helps. He becomes an honorary fire rescue dog.

Clifford helps the family spring clean the house and participates in an Earth Day project, with some surprising results.

Emily Elizabeth remembers the fun she had when she took Clifford to play in the snow for the first time. Emily Elizabeth recalls a snowy day while Clifford was a puppy, when he went sledding in her boot, was rescued from the ice by a hockey player, and helped build a snowman When Clifford, the big red dog, is feeling sad, Emily Elizabeth and her friends do everything they can think of to cheer him up.
